Who We Are
The Mosaic Collective creates theatre that moves people, arts education that opens doors, and community programming that invites everyone in. Each piece is distinct — together they form something whole.
We are rooted in a proud legacy of Black theatre and storytelling in Kansas City, and we are building forward: a broader circle of artists, cultures, audiences, and neighbors shaping what our stages hold next. Heritage and expansion, together.
When more voices are welcome, the whole community gets to see itself.

The Mosaic Collective grew out of the Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City, founded by Damron Russel Armstrong.
Mr. Armstrong filled a need by giving Black artists, playwrights, and audiences a professional home, making Black storytelling a permanent part of this city’s cultural life.
That legacy is not behind us; it is beneath us. It is our foundation and demonstrates our continued commitment to artists whose stories have too often been left off the season calendar.
As The Mosaic Collective, we widen the circle. We remain deeply committed to Black theatre and Black artistry while creating space for the many cultures, languages, and lived experiences that make up Greater Kansas City landscape.
Legacy, heritage and expansion, held together.
